Coming from shotgun on the field to fourth was Justin Piscitell, ahead of Ken Greenberg and Gian Luis Bacardi. Roger Mortimer was the last car on the lead lap in seventh while first-timer Gary Schultz and Thomas Atteberry both suffered early woes, finishing eight and ninth respectively.
(Race 2) After the race-long mayhem of Group 3, the Skip Barber driver coaches and staff were treated to a relatively sedate final race of the weekend from the MAZDASPEED Challenge West drivers. "The most impressive feat of the day was
Charles Ng’s performance. He just purchased an S2000 three days before the event, and entered into the competition with absolutely no modifications whatsoever. He clocked an amazing 1:38.452, a WSIR record for a “bone-stock” S2000."

"Charles Ng has learned Emil’s winning ways but in the MazdaSpeed Challenge behind the wheel of a MX5. Charles won both races in the first two rounds of the Western MazdaSpeed Challenge and is our current points leader. Charles took the pole over Peter Mokran, but only by two tenths! In fact just one second covered the top five qualifiers; Ng, Mokran, James Lustman, Max Riddle and Kevin Marshall. "

"Justin Piscitell, the points leader coming in, did a double weekend, to make up for his not being able to make the series opener in April, had a strong weekend. In his first race (Group 1), Piscitell ran Charles Ng very close, even setting fastest race lap, but Ng was perfect and beat Piscitell by .8 of a second..."
In the second race, again Ng and Piscitell went at it, and again Ng came home victorious, but it was even closer at the line, .259. And it was Charles who set fastest race lap this time."
